What makes Cacao different from from Cocoa?

Our organic Criollo is a wild strain of cocoa native to Peru. Criollo is famous for its abundance of trace minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. Unlike regular chocolate, this variety of cocoa doesn't present the high levels of heavy metals such as lead and cadmium making it a favourite among chocolate connoisseurs. By preserving the cacao in its raw unprocessed state, as we do, incredible healing properties can be experienced in each mug full.

Is this Cacao different from Ceremonial Cacao?

Ceremonial Cacao is often sold in chunks, which can be difficult and time consuming to breakdown into a beverage. Purists may restrict themselves to a brew of just cocoa and water. But we like to embellish our cacao, making it practical, super nutritious and above all an experiential delight to drink. We do this without adding any refined sugar or artificial sweeteners. Instead we use natural ingredients like heart opening rose, creamy coconut and sweet sea moss to create a balance of sweet, creamy chocolate bliss with each mouthful.

How is your Cacao produced?

Our cacao is grown sustainably amongst trees or shrubs, using a system of agroforestry land management. This method has much less environmental impact than the fertiliser heavy plantations that are common is west Africa and which cause so much deforestation. Forest cover in agroforestry systems improve water retention and reduce nutrient losses, as well as having the potential to conserve soil fertility.
